spring bulbs ready for autumn planting

It’s a beautiful Autumn day here in Edinburgh. The sky is clear and blue, the sun warm and the starlings are chattering away on the chimney pots.

And what better way to spend it than pottering in the garden? We’re tidying up pots, pulling baby beetroot and picking the last of the sweet peas.

We’ve also been sorting through the delivery of spring bulbs that arrived earlier this week. We plant bulbs in all our client’s gardens every Autumn so that when spring finally knocks on the door their gardens are full of green shoots and flowers.

There’s something magical about this annual ritual of unpacking the beautifully wrapped packets and nets of strangely shaped bulbs, an anticipation of next year’s growth as this year starts its slow wind down.

If you have any questions about planting bulbs in your garden then feel free to fire them our way!

We’re proud to present, at long last, our word of mouth directory!

We’ve been promising for quite some time now to bring together all the amazing makers and growers and gardeners and design writers and shops and galleries that we keep finding on our creative travels into one easy-to-navigate directory.

And now we have! It’s over here on the twig website.

So why create a design directory?

Well, at twig we have a very simple formula for better living. We think life tastes a little better when you make beautiful spaces for living and then fill them with gorgeous pieces which make you feel special.

And where do you go to find original, authentic design for your home and garden?

It can be hard work navigating your way through the busy design world and it’s always nice to have someone standing by to point out something you may have missed, or a place you may never have thought of looking before.

We’re always coming across amazing people and places wherever we go but why keep them tucked away in our twig files when we could show them off and brighten your day?

We’ll be adding to the directory as often as we can, and whenever we discover another great find we just have to share with you. Exciting times!

We’re just back from our holidays and after a busy summer we’re a little embarrassed at how much we have let our blog slip…  As is so easy with these things, the more you slow down the harder it is to get going again, so very sincere apologies to all of you who have been wondering where we have been.

Well, we’re back, and with all the resolve which so often generates when we take a well earned break we’re looking forward to the coming months and we absolutely promise we will be more committed, better and more bubbly bloggers.

It’s easy to buy our studio collections of cushions now we have opened our etsy shop .

You can shop online for zanzibar, bebop and bloom.

We’re also developing a few etsy exclusives which should appear in the next couple of weeks, as well as finalising our next collection of cushions. So keep stopping by to see what’s new for twig!

Heads have been scratched, decisions have been made, emails have been sent, and we can now reveal that the community garden to be featured this year for twig is…… Silverburn Village Hall!

Filming is set to take place mid June, so it will be all hands to the deck to get the project completed on time.

Watch this space for updates…

We had a great day this week with the production team behind the Beechgrove Garden.

For those of you not in the know, the Beechgrove Garden is Scotland’s flagship gardening programme produced by the BBC and focussing on gardening in Scotland. As you can imagine it’s pretty exciting for Jason to be invited on board as part of their team of garden designers.

We visited two of the community gardens (Mossburn animal shelter near Lockerbie and Silverburn village hall, close to Penicuik) which may be featured on the upcoming series.

Jason’s role will be to pull together the community’s ideas and develop a garden design which the community will build, with a little advice and a little help from twig along the way.

It’s an exciting, and challenging opportunity to work on a project which allows Jason to take his skills and put them back into the community.

Gwyneth and Mike have to select four out of a possible twelve gardens so fingers crossed it will be one of the gardens visited! If it is then you’ll see Jason on your tv screen this summer.
